BMW has decided to stop production of their first electric car, the BMW i3, from July 2021. Next, BMW will introduce the new electric vehicle, the iX SUV and i4 sedan.

First released in 2013, the i3 is BMW's first electric vehicle. Initially, this electric car was able to travel 80 miles from a 22kWh battery, with a modest 170 horsepower.

Then the battery capacity was increased 50% to 33 kWh in 2017, so that the mileage to 113 miles. The BMW i3 was enthusiastically welcomed by automotive fans, with sales reaching 100 thousand units.

In an email, a BMW spokesperson confirmed that US production of the i3 would end in July 2021. "At the time of its launch in 2013, the BMW i3 represented a pioneering moment in electric vehicles and light construction," the spokesman said, as quoted by The Verge, Tuesday (29 29). /6/2021).

BMW fans are disappointed that the factory has never made a successor to the i3 or the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car in the years since those cars were released. But the company is repeating the underlying electrical technology.

Now, next-generation technology will power not only the iX SUV and i4 sedan but also the Chinese-made iX3 (which is now officially not destined for the US).

The iX and i4 SUVs will cost more than the BMW i3, which starts at around $44,000. The base model i4 will start at US$55,400, while the iX is expected to retail for US$83,200. Both EVs will go on sale in the US from early 2022.
